August Science Connections at TOG
Aug 20, 2025
Join us at The Old Gallery in Allenspark to hear about current environmental research happening in Rocky Mountain National Park!
This month’s talk: “How are Filamentous Algal Blooms Changing our Mountain Lakes?” – Mountain lakes are vital water towers, critical biodiversity sites, and beloved hiking destinations. However, mountain lakes are also sensitive to environmental change. Many remote lakes, including some in Rocky Mountain National Park, are experiencing unprecedented changes in the algal communities that form the base of the aquatic food web. This research seeks to disentangle the impacts of filamentous algal blooms in The Lock and Sky Pond.
Presented by Katie Gannon, PhD student at University of Colorado – Boulder and Rocky Mountain Conservancy Summer Research Fellowship recipient
