Connecting with Nature: Deepening Relationships with Native Plants

Slow down and immerse yourself in the magic and serenity of summer in Rocky Mountain National Park!
Building relations with plants is a vital component when interacting with nature. In this workshop, we will explore ways to engage and connect with plants in an organic, intuitive way. We will discuss skills to strengthen the connections with nature and plants in the everyday world. Through this practice, individuals can cultivate a sense of appreciation and connection to plants, form a more personal relationship with the natural world, and enhance their stewardship and conservation.
Participants will:
- Acquire way to practice acts of reciprocity to the plant world
- Engage in observational journaling exercises
- Discuss the importance of building relationships with nature
- Be lead through a mindful meditation
Who: Participants ages 16 and up.
Program level: Easy – Appropriate for most participants. Expect frequent short walks with ample breaks. Participants will be walking on paved or hardened surfaces with moderate slopes and occasional stairs. Transportation will be in a 15-passenger van with bench seats and a narrow aisle that requires stepping up to enter. Participants may travel in vehicles to elevations above 10,000 feet.
This program has a classroom and field portion.
When: Wednesday, June 17th 9:00am-1:00pm
Where: Meet at the Fall River Visitor Center, 3450 Fall River Road, Estes Park, CO 80517, and travel together to various locations within RMNP in Conservancy vehicles. All required fees and permits are included in your registration.
What to Bring:
- 10 Essentials for Field Institute Courses.
- Journal and pen
- A collapsible stool or chair if you prefer not to sit on the ground
About Your Instructor: Since childhood, Nikimbre’ Daniels has always felt a deep connection to plants and nature. A naturalist and herbalist, Nikimbre’ has spent several years as an instructor and working with organizations such as The American Herbalist Guild, HerbPharm, Banyan Botanicals, Northern California Women’s Herbal Symposium, and the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy. Her classes entail a rich reminder of the gifts plants and land have to offer.
