Fall Color Elk Ecology Tour

Sep 26 - Sep 27, 2025

With rich golden aspens and the excitement of the elk rut, Rocky Mountain National Park puts on a show each fall! Come along with us!

It’s impossible to ignore the magic of fall in the Rockies! The fall rut is a spectacular display of elk mating behavior featuring bugling, posturing, and herding displays by the bulls. Paired with the reds and golds of fall foliage, this extraordinary event will be available for viewing from the comfort of our 14-passenger minibus staffed by our knowledgeable guides, who will discuss elk ecology, interpret elk behavior, and share elk artifacts such as antlers and hides for participants to see and touch.

This tour is approximately 2.5 hours in length and is suitable for all ages. We will make several stops, depending on where elk are gathering, and participants will be able to disembark at each stop. Some stops may include a short walk over unpaved ground to maximize viewing opportunities.

ADA wheelchair accessible transportation is available! Please email us at education@RMConservancy.org to request this option.

All required park entrance fees and permits are included in your registration.

When: All tours depart at 3:30pm and return at approximately 6:00pm. Please arrive at 3:15pm to check in for an on-time departure.
