Winter Hike: Bierstadt Lake

Mar 13, 2026

Hit the snowy trails together for a fun hike to Bierstadt Lake!

Enjoy a scenic winter hike to Bierstadt Lake. We’ll leave from Bear Lake trailhead and make our way up the switchbacks to the top of the moraine before meandering through the forest to the clearing of Bierstadt Lake. We’ll view the frozen lake and snowy peaks of Flattop, Hallet and Otis peaks, and enjoy a snack before heading back to the trailhead.

No prior winter hiking or snowshoe experience is required. Snowshoes or microspikes will be provided based on trail conditions. Snowshoes are best for fresh snow deeper than six inches, and microspikes are ideal for packed snow or icy terrain. Before setting out, instructors will demonstrate how to use the equipment and offer time to practice on level ground. This program is a perfect opportunity to discover the joy of winter exploration in Rocky Mountain National Park!
