Science Connections at The Old Gallery

Jun 14, 2024

Event Series Event Series (See All)

Join us for a series of informal, natural science-based talks highlighting the Rocky Mountain National Park region!

Connecting the public with specialty science, local research, current events, and fascinating creatures, Rocky Mountain Conservancy is eager to collaborate with the Old Gallery to present Science Connections. An extension of the Conservancy’s Field Institute, this speaker series connects expert scientists, historians, and naturalists to the community, bringing high level research to the public in an approachable and comfortable setting. These neighborhood discussions, held on the second Thursday of the month (June – September) will allow time for questions and discussion after the presentation.

These programs are free and open to the public, but space is limited! Should we run out of room, priority will be given to those who have registered in advance.

July 11: Search and Rescue and the Epidemiology of back-country day use in Rocky Mountain National Park, presented by JT Lambert

August 8: Amazing Black Bears of Rocky Mountain National Park, presented by Rachel and Andy Ames

September 12: Alpine Wildflower Phenology in a Changing World, presented by Jax Maldonado – Alpine wildflowers have unique adaptations that allow them to thrive in a harsh environment, but with climate change, pollution, and visitor-use impacts, they could experience unprecedented changes. Building on pioneering research by Bettie Willard, a new alpine community science program seeks to learn how and at what rates our alpine plant communities are changing.
