Special Presentation: Limber Pine Conservation in Rocky Mountain NP
Sep 24, 2024
Join us for a special presentation on one of Rocky’s most iconic conifers, the limber pine, and learn how you can help secure its future!
Limber pine is a hardy species in Rocky Mountain National Park. The often-gnarled tree that defies the elements at tree line and is capable of making a home out of a thin crack in bare rock has been in severe decline in western North America over the last half-century. Come learn about the park’s efforts to conserve limber pine faced with the threats of pine beetle outbreaks, climate change, wildfire, and white pine blister rust.
Rocky Mountain National Park’s Forest Ecology team will share more information on the challenges facing this essential species, and why the limber pine that live within the park may hold the key to future resilience. You’ll also learn more about upcoming opportunities for hardy volunteers to help with limber pine restoration in the East Troublesome Fire burn scar.
This event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is appreciated.
