The darling of Rocky Mountain National Park now available as a pin! Weighing in at about 6 ounces, this diminutive relative of the rabbit forages for plants during the day among the rocks above treeline and on the alpine tundra. It dries the grasses it collects for food and then stores them in sheltered “haypiles” for the winter. Active year round, a pika’s piercing whistles warn of nearby predators and intruders, such as coyotes, hawks and humans.
